This weeks Long Haul Challenge was shot in almost perfect conditions sun beating down and the slightest of a north easterly wind this round is a natural bow round so no shooting aids or penalties wound be applied everyone opted for the bare bow penalty free option. This turned into a hotly contested event at the top between Tony Hartley and Dave Berry; Harley edged a fifty point lead after Berry put four arrows in the Green scoring zone (Grass) at the 50m distance. At the 30m distance Berry starts a fight back charge putting in a four gold end and as hard as he tries he just can’t over haul Hartley and has to settle for the runners up spot, Michael Tancurin put in a good show to get the last run on the podium good showing for his first barebow target shoot.

September 12th 2010 Fita 70

This week saw everyone doing the Fita 70 metre round and only two competitors opting to do the double Adrian Bruce and Kirsten George. George picking up a junior club record for her trouble but down to the 720 rounds and it was close in both gents compound and recurve disciplines with two very close battles between Adrian Bruce and Peter Mumford with Bruce edging it by six points and in the recurve battle between Michael Tancurin and Tony Hartley all level till the last dozen arrows and the pressure most of got to Hartley for him to drop two arrows and get the runners up spot by seven points. This was great practice for Adrian Bruce, Sarah Rigby, Aalin George and Peter Mumford ahead of the Commonwealth Games now only two weeks away for the team.

This week Fita 70 round was shot in fantastic conditions slight northerly wind and sun the only problem archers found was which factor sun cream to apply.
Late start thanks to Michael Tancurin trying out some new arrows, Dave Berry topped the Gents recurve from the close battle between Michael Tancurin and Simon Collins, Collins found he last his shoulder muscles in the last dozen which pushed him down to third. Junior archer Bradley Layton now twelve brought the birthday cake which was devoured by everyone at lunchtime break that extra year worked well for Layton as he gets a new personal best.

May 30th 2010 Fita

This weeks round was a Fita this is shot over four different distances and 36 arrows at each distance, conditions were sunny but strong blustery winds saw a large retirement rate with arrows being blown off there rests. With only two completing the round Michael Tancurin and Joy Gough this was a credit to them to conquer the conditions. Alex Snell and Colin Moore did battle in the morning and found the conditions very hard and packed up at lunch time along with Charlotte George. The afternoon session saw Barbara Harris and Chris Holmes had a close battle at the short metrics and the juniors Charlotte Harris, Adam Wright and Bradley Layton coped well in the windy conditions. Noticeable retirements came from the George camp with Allan and Kirsten packing up after the sighter arrows and Peter Mumford abandon the morning and gave it a go in the afternoon but just couldn’t keep the arrows on the rest and pull out. Other absentees included Aalin George having a rest after the silver medal match last week Adrian Bruce resting his voice after a fantastic performance in the DC/AC concert at the Villa, Tony Hartley busy at work and Dave Berry recovering from the Flu virus.

April 25th 2010 Fita

This weeks round was a Fita this round is shot over 90m 70m 50m and 30m 36 arrows at each distance. The weather conditions were back to normal Manx summer conditions drizzle, mist with following and cross winds. Low turnout can only be accounted to the weather with only three archers doing the full shoot and another three doing the afternoon session. One personal best by Michael Tancurin and with the weather improving for the later distance this seemed to favour the compound archers to see Adrian Bruce and Peter Mumford both put in the personal bests scores for that distance. Congratulation from the club goes out to Aalin George, for not only being selected to shoot for Team GB in the European Junior Cup in Rovereto, Italy in May but also making the selection for the European Junior Championships in Winnenden, Germany in July.

April 11th 2010 double Fita 70

This week shoot was a Fita 900 this round is shot over three different distances 60, 50 and 40 metres and 30 arrows at each distance. Changeable weather conditions with south westerly winds gusting and the sun trying to shine through the cloudy conditions, with all that to contend with two new club records were shot by Tony Hartley in the recurve discipline, Hartley still on a high from a trip to France and coming back engaged, and Adrian Bruce gets to grips with the new release to get the compound record. The second spot on the recurve podium went to a limping and pain hit Dave Berry persevering with a Knee problem and on the next step was Michael Tancurin, and the early retirement from Colin Moore with a neck injury rounded of the recurve. The compound podium was close between Adrian Bruce and Peter Mumford with only 3 points between them after the first distance in favour of Bruce,
Then Bruce puts another 6 point advantage after the second distance, Mumford pulls one point back but has to settle for the second step on the podium.

July 18th 2010 Senior Champs

This week saw the annual Isle of Man outdoor target championships hosted by Isle of Man Archery Club, the weather throw up its joker card by sending rain wind and mist just to give the archers an extra challenge.
Gents compound saw a stiff competition between Adrian Bruce, Allan George and Peter Mumford with Bruce taking the advantage at the 90 metre distance it was a lead that he wouldn’t give up George and Mumford pushed him all the way and Bruce soaked up the pressure as well as the weather to win the title.
Ladies compound saw Joy Gough come up against Kirsten George who was in her first senior comp, missing from the line up was Aalin George due to other team GB commitments in the junior European championships in Winnenden Germany. Gough took the advantage over young George to take the ladies title.
Gents Recurve saw Tony Hartley lift the coveted title with Dave Berry and Michael Tancurin both absent with other commitments
Ladies Recurve saw Charlotte George Anne Rutland and Barbara Harris battle the weather conditions George and Rutland were swapping points and by the half way point there was only 10 points between the two but after the lunch break George pushed home and scored 50 point more at the 50 meter distance an advantage she wouldn’t lose and take the ladies title for an impressive fifth time and still a junior.

This competition is a two day event for the juniors with Junior FITA Star and Metric Tournament on Saturday and the Junior National Outdoor Championships held on Sunday the three archers are from the George Clan Charlotte Aalin and Kirsten. This week archery report come from three different events from Italy, England and home first a trip to the Mediterranean with Team GB’s Aalin George from the Isle of Man Archery Club has won a European Junior Cup silver medal in her first international tournament. Aalin, 14, missed out by the narrowest of margins in her women's compound cadet final against Slovenia's Toja Cerne 17. In windy conditions in Reggio Calabria, Italy, Aalin and her rival finished all square - meaning a sudden death tie break. Both archers scored a 9, but Aalin missed out on the gold medal because her arrow was two millimetres further away from the middle than the Slovenian. Said Performance manager Barry Eley: "It was an agonising way to miss out on the gold medal, but Aalin has done fantastically well this week.”She's the youngest member of the team, it's her international debut, and she has put in a marvellous performance to win an individual silver medal. She's a real star of the future."
