This week saw archers tackle the Annual May Day Windsor Trophy this is one of the main silverware of the season shot in changeable conditions reminisce of the beginning of April slight winds with several showers the Windsor round is shot over three distances 60, 50 and 40 yards for the seniors and 40, 30 and 20 yards for the juniors with three dozen arrows at each distance also imperial scoring 9 for a gold, 7 for a red, 5 for a blue, 3 for a black and 1 for a white.
In the recurve trophy competition there were two major battles one for the top spot and one for the last spot on the podium we’ll start with the battle for top honours between the reigning champion Anne Rutland and Tony Hartley whom last won this title in 2009 Rutland had the upper hand and edged out a massive thirty point lead at the first distance, Hartley cut Rutland’s lead to ten points at the next distance and turn the last distance into a real battle with the score level with only twelve arrows Hartley had the edge over a fatigued Rutland to tack the silverware by just ten points, the third spot was also a close battle between Dave Moore and Barbara Harris, Moore edged out a slender two point lead or Harris at the first distance and both scored the same at the second distance so Moore still held the advantage Harris could now see the finishing line and pushed Moore all the way, Moore was now under pressure and put in a couple loose arrows for Harris to pick up third by ten points.
In the compound trophy there were two battles as with the recurve a battle for top honours and the battle for third, first up the battle for silverware between Sarah Rigby and Peter Mumford, Rigby edged out a slender eight point lead at the first distance, Mumford shoots up a storm but Rigby matches him arrow for arrow for Rigby to still hold an eight point lead after the second distance Rigby was looking unbeatable but Mumford pushed on hoping Rigby might slip up but to no avail Rigby picks up the silverware by a narrow six points, the battle for the last spot on the podium was between Billy Lightfoot and Colin Moore, Moore edged out an eight point lead over Lightfoot after the first distance, Lightfoot puts in an absolute storming second distance to take the lead by six points going into the last distance, Moore wasn’t going to stand to losing last spot on the podium and put in blinding last dozen to get a maximum on them to beat Lightfoot to the third spot by six points.
Only two competitor’s in the junior title this year, last year champion Bradley Layton was nowhere to be seen which set up a battle between Adam Wright and Charlotte Harris, Wright seized the opportunity and edged out a thirty eight point lead over Harris at the first distance, Wight was on an absolute storm and was unstoppable charge and come out on top to get the silverware.
